Advanced Lingo For Games

Chapter 7 Section 1

Game Overview

The way this game works is a little more complex than most puzzle games. Groups of blocks fall from the top of the screen. The player can move them left and right as they fall, as well as rotate them. When they land on the bottom of the screen, or on top of another piece, they stop. The screen quickly fills up with blocks. However, if any complete, solid row of blocks is completed by the user, that row disappears, making room for more.

The game ends when the user places a piece too high up on the screen. This usually happens when the screen is just about full.

Figure 7.1 shows a game in progress. The set of three blocks in the middle of the screen is a falling piece. The rest of the blocks in the middle are pieces that have previously fallen.
