The sliding puzzle game, like the jigsaw puzzle, is a real-world physical game that has been adapted to the computer screen. Also like jigsaw puzzles, they can be used for many purposes. Because an image is at the center of the game, it can be used to promote things, or it can simply be given a theme. For instance, a sliding puzzle with an illustration for a children's book can be used in an educational CD-ROM, while a movie still image can be used to promote a film on the Web.
